This webinar will examine the remaking of Hawaiʻi into one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world. This process utilized land law changes that provided the framework for developing Waikīkī, transforming it from an important food production center into the tourism mecca that will host the AAG conference in April. It will also discuss the current consequences of these legislative changes passed in the 1890s and their continued impact on Native Hawaiians and the rest of Hawaiʻi’s population.
