AAG is hosting the first Geography Education Symposium on Friday, March 28, 2025, during its upcoming Annual Meeting in Detroit, Michigan (USA). The Symposium’s co-organizers include AAG as the convener working with representatives of thirteen geography education and educational research groups (see list of partners below).
The Symposium follows disciplinary growth recommendations in the AAG’s Strategic Plan as identified in the Culture of Care Initiative and the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan. These plans highlight the critical role of teachers at all levels of geographic education in recognizing and directing students toward opportunities in academic and professional geography.
The inaugural Symposium will address geography education and professional pathways at K-12 schools, two-year colleges, and undergraduate programs including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Predominantly Black Institutions, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges.
