AAG Welcomes Fall 2026 Interns

The AAG welcomes three new interns joining the AAG staff this fall.

Daniel Nirenblatt is a senior at the George Washington University majoring in Geography with minors in GIS and German. One of his earliest introductions to the discipline was in 2019 when Daniel competed in National Geographic’s “GeoBee” in Washington, which gave him an opportunity to explore global regions and how cultures formed around them. This initial interest evolved into Daniel’s current pursuits of urban design in how people and society are transformed by their lived environment. While studying in Berlin, he encountered the city’s rich and complex history with urban form and culture, and he wishes to bring that knowledge back to the States to develop a more sustainable urban future. Daniel currently leads GW’s Humanitarian Mapping Society, a student organization which seeks to map areas affected by war, natural disasters, and informal settlements to provide humanitarian aid. Outside the classroom, Daniel enjoys playing the piano and doing street photography.

After graduating from GW in December, Daniel wishes to work in the fields of urban design, planning, and GIS and hopes to obtain a master’s degree in urban design. He looks forward to contributing to AAG as a Communities and Communications intern so that he can gain insight into how everyone can benefit from the discipline of geography.

Mehrnush (Nushy) Golriz is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has been a geographer for over 13 years and received her B.A. in Geography at Dartmouth College as well as her M.A. in Geography at UCLA. Her dissertation research examines the legal geographies of lithium extraction in Chile’s Atacama Salt Flats. She is interested in understanding how law shapes minerals and its extraction as well as how mineral ecosystems both shape and contest the laws that govern them.

Mehrnush also serves as a Graduate Student Board Member of the AAG’s Legal Geography Specialty Group and has previously organized sessions at both the AAG Annual Meeting and the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) Annual Congress.

Griffin Harold is a sophomore at Bridgewater State University majoring in Geography with a concentration in Sustainable Global Systems and minors in Urban Planning and Economics. His journey with Geography began with a deep fascination in cities when he was growing up. He is particularly interested in the relationship between people and where they live, and how communities thrive. Through his major, he has also been exposed to the diverse paths of the discipline.

His interests include transportation, tourism, economics, and population geography. In his free time, he likes going on hikes, checking out new coffee shops, and taking the train around Boston. In the future, he hopes to work for an international consulting agency focusing on urban development and economic prosperity. He is honored to be one of the Communities Interns and is thrilled to work for the AAG!
