Strengthening your department in a time of rapid change
You are invited to the 22nd annual GFDA Department Leadership workshop, offering two days of virtual sessions to help you meet the many challenges our departments and programs face now. Sessions are offered starting at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time, with panels, discussions, and interactive activities throughout each day.
This year’s workshop focuses especially on issues that have arisen this year that are affecting our students, colleagues, teaching, programs, research, and services in many ways. The workshop offers a forum for sharing concerns and strategies in a supportive setting. Sessions will touch on:
- From crisis to courage creating a sustainable future for your department
- Planning for improving our departments
- Supporting international students
- Academic freedom in the face of new, restrictive legislation,
- Mentoring, promotion, and tenure in the current climate
- Envisioning transformative GenEd curricula in challenging times
This workshop is for all geographers interested in improving their programs‐‐chairs, deans, associate chairs, academic advisers, provosts and other administrators, as well as any faculty member interested in leadership issues, including those who have just been appointed to leadership roles or may soon assume one. Sessions are designed for interaction as well as small-group discussions and networking.
