The Threats of Natural Environment of the Baltic Sea

Sylwia Wochna and Igor Szakowski

Geographic focus: Poland / Baltic Sea

Date completed: 2002

The Baltic Sea is especially sensitive for pollution. Sylwia Wochna and Igor Szakowski, students from Institute of Marine Sciences in Poland, used a chart to evaluate the presence of toxic elements in the Baltic Sea. They found that most pollutants are found in the deepest zones and near ports, and that the least threatened area is the Bay of Bothnia.
