Our Cities without Green Space Albert Mugenyi
Geographic focus: Uganda Date completed: 2002 While certain aspects of urbanization are inevitable (population growth, industrialization, etc) progressive policies have proved effective in countering their potential social and environmental consequences. Albert Mugenyi, a student in Uganda, used GIS to create a model for how cities can use green space to offset the impacts of increasingly dense populations in urban areas. He recommended that planners create green space as a means of regulating temperature, decreasing pollution levels, and retaining rain water.
