Industrialization has contaminated the Volga River, and effluents from factories have produced vast algal blooms in recent years. Vladimir Malov, a student from Russia, studied the relationship between industrialization and water quality, using an analysis of geospatial data to land use/ land cover map that showed distribution of vegetation in the Volga River. Vladimir recommended that planners and administrators enforce stricter environmental regulations on factories.
