Climate Change: a Consequence of Urbanization Julia Kingsbury
Geographic focus: Canada / Ottawa Date completed: 2002 Current research suggests that Canada will be severely affected by climate change in coming decades, Julia Kingsbury, a student from Ottawa, studied the role of public transportation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a leading cause of global warming. She used GIS to create maps to help planners design public transportation systems in Ottawa. From the results of her research, she recommended creation of a metropolitan subway system.
