Approach to the Knowledge of the Forest Located at San Bartolomé La Merced School, Bogotá Colombia: A Proposal to Conserve the Eastern Mountains Juan Carlos Chitiva, Daniel Felipe Galeano, and Javier Antonio Gómez
Geographic focus: Colombia / Eastern Mountains Date completed: 2002 Colombia’s biologically diverse Eastern Mountains provide important ecological services for the Bogotá metropolitan region. A team of local students created a map their school and surrounding forested land to help design a nature trail to raise awareness for environmental protection. They recommended that this ‘Ecological Path’ be used as a resource where students from any school may interact with the forest and learn how to care for it.
