Using SWERA’s GeoSpatial Toolkit and GIS to Identify Renewable Energy Locations in Honduras

Claudia Cáceres

Geographic focus: Honduras

Date completed: 2006

Clean energy solutions have an important role in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Using GIS and geospatial data developed by Solar and Wind Energy Resource Assessment (SWERA), Claudia Cáceres assessed potential sites for wind energy projects in Honduras. Claudia took into account numerous variables, including land slope, wind speed, and location of roads. Using various GIS analysis tools she produced a map that identified suitable areas for wind farms in Honduras.
