White Water to Blue Water
A special set of MyCOE activities focus on sustainable
development, water and coastal management in the US, Latin America &
Caribbean region.
MyCOE partners are teaming up with the White
Water to Blue Water partnership (WW2BW), a program designed to promote
integrated watershed and marine ecosystem-based management. This approach
supports sustainable development in the wider Caribbean, from the white
waters of the mountain regions, to the blue waters of the ocean.
MyCOE activities have:
- Encouraged students in the region to develop local projects around water
and coastal management and agriculture themes
- Supplemented the MyCOE mentor network
to recruit scientists and experts in the region
- Created an inventory of selected
key existing resources in region of interest for water issues (highlighting
those using GIS), including relevant university-to-university linkages
and sister city projects
- Partnered with regional organizations with shared objectives, such as the
International Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD) in Panama
- Designed, created, and staffed an exhibit, seminar,
training institute, and related activities for the WW2BW Conference in
Miami
- Participated in special funded projects focused on the region, including the Making Waves partnership
- Developed a regional initiative to support students and their institutions to become engaged with community-based sustainable development research projects
