| Dear Colleagues
Thanks to each of you for supporting the formation of the Business Geography Specialty Group (BGSG) of the Association of American Geographers (AAG). This is the first official communication from your new board!
We are pleased and excited to begin to work for this group. The purpose of the BGSG is to bring together AAG members who have mutual professional interests in business geography. We will have a lot of work to do to set goals but hope to begin to bring academics together to share research, provide direction for future leaders, and provide a forum for networking and interaction with the business community.
We would like to ask each of you to participate with us at the AAG meetings in Las Vegas.
Currently, we are organizing two paper sessions and a panel session for the conference, and plan to have a meeting of the BGSG. The panel session will be an open discussion in and around the problems facing business today and how geography can help. That will include a discussion on how the university system can and should begin to teach more application areas that focus on business problems.
In coming months we will be setting up a web page and mailing list in order to better communicate out to our members. In the meantime, we will need your help in spreading the word and getting people interested in participating. Our web page under development at the AAG is at http://www.aag.org/sg/sg_display.cfm
Please let us know by October 1st if you have interest in either the paper or panel session. Remember – papers are 20 minutes in length including discussion. Abstract submission deadline is October 16th – so we need gauge level of interest.
Thanks to everyone for you interest and continued support.
