Canadian Studies Specialty Group Paper Competition
The Canadian Studies Specialty Group (CSSG) will announce the winners of
its 2004 student paper competition at the Philadelphia meeting of the
Association of American Geographers. The competition is open to anyone who
presents a paper on Canada, transborder issues (Canada/US), and transnational
issues concerning Canada at the 2004 AAG or the 2004 annual meeting of the
Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG). The paper must be developed from
graduate research (master’s or PhD level) and cannot be under review or
accepted for publication by any peer-reviewed journal. Applicants must join the CSSG upon
entry. The authors of the top four
papers selected from the applicant pool will be expected to present their paper
at the CSSG Student Paper Competition session at the 2004 AAG in
Philadelphia. When conditions warrant,
those students unable to travel to Philadelphia will have their papers read by
a member of the CSSG Awards Committee.
The winning paper will receive a cash prize of $300 and two consolation
prizes of $100 each will also be awarded.
Three copies of the paper must be received by the awards committee chair
no later than December 19, 2003. The paper is limited to 8,000 words of text
and must also include (1) name, (2) title, (3) institutional affiliation, (4)
status, (5) contact information, (6) four keywords that describe the paper, and
(7) a 150-word abstract. Please refer to the submission details of the Annals
of the Association of American Geographers for style requirements; failure to
submit papers in correct format will result in disqualification. Forward the
complete package to Soren Larsen, CGSG Awards Committee Chair, Department of
Geology and Geography, Box 8149, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, GA
30460-8149. Phone: (912) 681-0846. E-mail: sclarsen@gasou.edu.
