Geographic focus: Norway / coastal areas in Grimstad, Norway
Date completed: 2006
Despite Norway’s large size, its population has always clustered together in small areas, particularly along the coast. A team of students from Agder University, in Norway, created maps to show patterns of development along coastal areas near Grimstad over time. They also modeled this trend and created a map that predicts the extent of development by the year 2030. They recommended that current laws be updated and that planners rely more on geographic technologies to carry out their work.
