Process of Slowing Degradation of Wooded Mountains
In the Natitingou Region

Brice Tente

Geographic focus: Benin / Natitingou region

Date completed: 2002

Accurate data on changes in land use and land cover is vital to any effort to protect a region’s natural environment. Brice Tente, from the Abomey-Calavi University in Benin, analyzed aerial photographs and satellite images to study the effects of human activities in the Natitingou region between 1975 and 1993. Brice mapped changes in land cover between these years and showed how forests and natural grassland have given way to agricultural fields.
