URGENT: Please Contribute Now to Oppose Legal Threat to the Mapping and GIS Community The AAG is developing an Amicus Brief and related legal documents in opposition to a federal lawsuit filed by MAPPS (Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors) and other special interest groups that seeks to limit nearly all government contracting for mapping activity, including GIS, to licensed engineers and surveyors. For more information, click here. Several other organizations have already signed on to the Amicus Brief, including URISA, GITA, UCGIS, and GISCI. It is imperative that affected individuals and organizations in the mapping and GIS fields understand the implications of this effort to usurp these fields. The consequences of this federal litigation and related state lobbying efforts could have far reaching impacts on geographers, computer scientists, planners, cartographers, foresters, GIS software and service companies, and many others who have long been productive, creative, and innovative forces in the mapping and GIS fields. Your contributions will help defend the rights of the vast majority of the mapping and GIS community from this legal threat. Please contribute what you can to the Mapping and GIS Community Defense Fund now.
