for Innovation and Research in Graduate Education (CIRGE). The Center for Research and Innovation in Graduate Education (CIRGE) is serving as the external evaluator for EDGE-Phase 2. In 2008, CIRGE released a study based on a survey of social science PhDs who earned their degrees between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1999. The survey focuses on job search, work/life choices and dilemmas, and doctoral program evaluation. Geography was one of the disciplines studied in the report, which is available on the CIRGE website.

In September 2008, the AAG received a supplemental grant from NSF to support collaborative research with Oxford University’s Centre for Excellence in Preparing for Academic Practice. This funding supported a longitudinal study based on monthly logs of the mentoring relationships, study habits, and professional development activities in which graduate students are engaged.
