Privacy Policy for AAG websites

Your privacy is very important to us, so we have developed these privacy practices to explain how we collect and make use of personal information.  This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for the AAG websites (aag.org, www2.aag.org), and applies solely to the information collected by the AAG websites.

  • We collect personal information with the knowledge or consent of the individual.
  • We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email, the website, or other direct contact from you.
  • We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you about specials, new products or services, or changes to this privacy policy. You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time. The AAG reserves the right to disclose information when disclosure is required by law or in a good faith belief that action is necessary to (1) conform to legal requirements  or comply with a legal process served on the AAG, (2) protect or defend the rights of property of the AAG, or (3) protect the personal safety of AAG officers, personnel, members, volunteers, or members of the public in appropriate circumstances.

  • We will protect personal information by reasonable security safeguards against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.
  • We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request (for example: ship an order, prepare for your attendance at the annual meeting, etc.)
  • Orders:  we request information from you on our order form.  To buy from us, you must provide contact information (like name and shipping address), and financial information (like credit card number and expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we experience trouble processing an order, then we will use this information to contact you.
  • Meeting Registrations:  we request information from you on our meeting  registration form. To register for our meeting, you must provide contact information (like name and address), and financial information (like credit card number and expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to register you for the meeting. Your contact information is also used by our abstract management system (Open Water) if you submit an abstract for a poster or paper. Your contact information will be used by session managers and planners to schedule your presentation. If we have questions regarding your registration, then we will use this information to contact you.
  • Member Directory: the online Member Directory is to facilitate communication between members. Members are responsible for the security of the information that they access through the Member Directory, and must not share their login information.
  • Cookies and Web Beacons: In order to help enhance the performance and functionality of the website, we utilize session, persistent and third-party “cookies” that store a small piece of data on a users’ computers and collect certain information about the users’ visit to our site. We also use web beacons (either directly or from our partners) to determine if a user has visited a particular website.
  • Personalized Ads: The AAG uses analytics data and tracking pixels to serve remarketing ads based on a user's prior visits to our website. Site visitors may opt out of personalized ads on Google services and Facebook by adjusting the Ad Settings of their Google and Facebook accounts. Users can also review how AAG  serves remarketing ads (and can opt out of being tracked) by visiting https://privacy.feathr.co/.

The AAG reserves the right to offer either an opt in or opt out option depending on the situation and the type of information being collected. The AAG might be unable to provide services for which such information is needed for security and/or identification purposes.

Cookies and Web Beacons

In order to help enhance the performance and functionality of the site, we utilize session, persistent and third-party “cookies” that store a small piece of data on a users’ computers and collect certain information about the users’ visit to our site. We also use cookies to understand users’ browsing and buying activities so that we can measure the success of online advertising campaigns we run on the site. Our site also uses web beacons (either directly or from our partners), along with cookies, to determine if a user has visited a particular website. These beacons aid in providing more relevant advertising to the user, as well measuring the success of an advertising campaign, but provide no personally identifiable information. 

Cookies are small text files that web servers typically send to users’ computer when they visit a website. Cookies are stored as text files on users’ hard drive, and can be accessed by web servers when the user visits a website or views an advertisement. A session cookie is a cookie that stores information as a user is using the site but is deleted once the browser session is finished. A persistent cookie is a cookie that stores information as a user utilizes the site and stores and uses that information in connection with future visits of the user to the site. Third-party cookies and/or web beacons are cookies or web beacons provided by our technology and/or advertising partners. Any third-party cookie or web beacon that we authorize for use on the site only collects that information described below for the same stated purposes as if we were directly collecting the information. For a third-party cookie or web beacon, the third-party will have access to the collected information in order to provide us with information or services to enhance the performance and functionality of the site.

The cookies and web beacons we use collect non-personally identifiable information about users of the site, including: browser used to access the site, date and time, the URL of the page being loaded, users who have visited a particular website(s), any previously assigned cookie identification (a unique identifier assigned to a user to identify repeat visitors), browser window size, the geographic location of the user, device and operating system used to access the site. The information we collect from these cookies and web beacons is used to determine information about a user’s visit to our site, including the number of visits, average time spent, pages viewed, navigation history through the website, and other statistics. This information is used to enhance the users’ experience while visiting our site and to improve the performance of our site by, among other things, allowing us to monitor site performance, making the site easier to use, measuring the effectiveness of promotional placements, and tailoring the site (including the ads and offers a user receives) to better match a user’s interests and preferences. 

Users who prefer not to accept cookies can set their Internet browser to notify them when they receive a cookie or to prevent cookies from being placed on their hard drive.
