The Professional Geographer Editor To Slow Processes in Response to Challenges Caused by COVID-19

The Professional Geographer was initially a publication of the American Society of Professional Geographers but became a journal of the American Association of Geographers in 1949 after the two organizations merged.

It currently has an Impact Factor of 2.383, ranking 50th out of 85 geography journals worldwide. The Professional Geographer is published quarterly.

The focus of this journal is on short articles in academic or applied geography, emphasizing empirical studies and methodologies. In addition to original articles, The PG also publishes research notes and commentaries.

These features may range in content and approach from rigorously analytic to broadly philosophical or prescriptive. The journal provides a forum for new ideas and alternative viewpoints.
