At the national and continental level, scholars and policymakers throughout Latin America have developed new strategies designed to improve infrastructure networks, respond to natural disasters, promote biodiversity conservation, establish sustainable land use practices, and improve social and economic equity. Geographers and professionals in related disciplines have played a central role in these efforts. The inherent cross-disciplinary and transnational nature of the challenges facing Latin American nations requires an approach informed by a spatial perspective and implemented using geographic tools and methodologies.

Spotlight: Latin America is a part of the AAG’s Developing Regions Membership Program, a special initiative designed to foster increased international scholarly exchange. Geographers and professionals of related disciplines from and living in developing regions, with an income of US$25,000 or less per year are now eligible to join the AAG for the deeply discounted annual membership rate of $20.
