African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE)
This professional association encourages the development and practice of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) as well as products of these geo-information technologies in their respective areas of operation.

African Development Information Services (AfDevInfo)
AfDevInfo tracks the mechanics of political and economic development across Sub Saharan Africa. This commercial, not-for-profit enterprise draws together a diverse range of publicly available data and presents it as an accessible and ever expanding online database.

African Geo Information Research Network (AGIRN)
AGIRN provides the African geo-information research community the means to publish and access high quality work, share in geo-information knowledge and engage in discussion through a widely accessible web based medium.

African Reference Frame (AFREF)
AFREF works to create a fundamental basis for national and regional three-dimensional reference networks.  When fully implemented, it will consist of a network of continuous permanent GPS stations such that a user anywhere in Africa would have free access to GPS data and products and would be at most 1000 km from such stations.

Centre Regional de Formation et d'Application en Agrometereologie, Hydrologie et Metereologie (AGRHYMET) (Regional Center for Training and Application in Agricultural Meteorology, Hydrology and Meteorology)

The AGRHYMET Center is a specialized institution created by the Permanent International Committee for the Fight Against Sahel Desertification (CILSS).  The AGRHYMET Regional Center has two main goals: to contribute to food security and an increase agricultural production in CILSS member countries, and to provide support for a better use of the Sahel region’s natural resources.

EIS Africa
This network of professionals and organizations collaborates to generate, manage, disseminate and use geo-spatial and environmental information to enrich policy debate and support decision-making for the well-being of African people.

Jane Goodall Institute
The Jane Goodall Institute works to increase primate habitat conservation; expand non-invasive research programs on chimpanzees and other primates; and promote activities that ensure the well-being of chimpanzees, other primates and animal welfare activities in general.

Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD)
RCMRD provides technical services, advisory services and training in numerous fields of surveying and mapping. The organization specializes in photogrammetry, photo-interpretation, first order geodesy, remote sensing, and calibration and maintenance of surveying and mapping equipment.

Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS)
RECTAS works with regional governments and mapping organizations to disseminate information in the field of geo-informatics through seminars, workshops, courses. RECTAS also provides advisory services to these organizations.

University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa (UNEDRA) 
UNEDRA's main aim is to forge interaction amongst universities in Africa with interest in teaching on disaster risk reduction, through information sharing, capacity building and collaborative research.


Centre National de Recherche Appliquee en Genie Parasysmique (CGS) (National Research Center in Earthquake Engineering)
CGS focuses on developing, applying and disseminating scientific and technical knowledge on seismology, in order to contribute to seismic risk reduction in Algeria.


Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA)

BIDPA promotes policy analysis through research, capacity building, assisting organizations or individuals where appropriate, monitoring the country’seconomic performance and disseminating policy research results.

Services for Geoinformation (SGI) 
Services for GeoInformation (SGI) aims to become the leading company providing reliable and efficient services in the field of Geomatics, application of Geographic Information System, Computer Aided Design to the people and the business community throughout Southern Africa.

Burkina Faso

Institut de l’Environnement et de la Recherche Agricole INERA (Institute of Environmental and Agricultural Research)
INERA is the umbrella institute for environmental and agricultural research in Burkina Faso. It carries out research programs, disseminates scientific and technical education, promotes and develops optimal regional agricultural and environmental practices, and ensures the transfer of the latest knowledge and technology to farmers.


Green Belt Movement (GBM)
GBM Kenya was established in 1977 by Prof. Wangari Maathai, under the auspices of the National Council of Women of Kenya. Its vision is to create a society of people who consciously work for continued improvement of their environment and a greener, cleaner Kenya. While tree planting has always been the focal activity, GBM programs have expanded to include projects in indigenous tree planting, civic education, advocacy, food security, greenbelt eco-safaris and “women and change”.

Kenya National Agricultural Research Institute (KARI)
KARI brings together research programs in food crops, horticultural and industrial crops, livestock and range management, land and water management, and socio-economics. KARI promotes sound agricultural research, technology generation and dissemination to ensure food security through improved productivity and environmental conservation.


Rwanda Telecentre Network (RTN)
RTN is a national network of community-based IT centers that are united in their commitment to strengthen the social, economic, educational, and cultural life of their communities through technology.

South Africa 

Agricultural Research Council 
The Agricultural Research Council is a South African organization that conducts fundamental and applied research with partners to generate new knowledge, develop human capital and foster innovation in agriculture. The organization promotes technology development and dissemination, and competitive commercialization of research results, to support development of a prosperous agricultural sector.

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
The CSIR is a 60 year old scientific and technology research, development and implementation organization. The CSIR undertakes directed and multidisciplinary research, technological innovation as well as industrial and scientific development to improve the quality of life of South Africa’s people.

Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO)
HartRAO is the only major radio astronomy observatory in Africa. It is located in a valley in the Magaliesberg hills, 50 km west of Johannesburg. It operates as a National Research Facility under the auspices of the National Research Foundation (NRF).

South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)
The SANBI focuses on biodiversity-related global policy and national priorities, and contributes to the development of national biodiversity initiatives.

South African Weather Service (SAWS)
The SAWS carries out weather and climate forecasting for South Africa, and operates 23 regional weather offices countrywide. It also provides forecasting services to aviation and maritime industries.

SunSpace Innovative Satellite Solutions
SunSpace provides small- and medium-sized satellites and related systems and solutions to the local and international aerospace market.  SunSpace has its origins in the SUNSAT satellite program ofStellenbosch University. SUNSAT, South Africa's first satellite, was developed completely by a local team of engineers, and launched in 1999 by the American space agency NASA.


Environmental Alert (EA)
EA is a Ugandan NGO that works to address the alarmingly low levels of agricultural productivity, high levels of food insecurity, and low incomes in both rural and urban poor communities, in addition to protecting against rapid degradation of natural resources on which community livelihood depends.

Productive Resource Investments for Managing the Environment (PRIME/WEST)
PRIME/West aims to reduce threats to the biodiversity of vertebrate species living in the Ugandan portion of the Albertine Rift, focusing on landscape analysis, community-based natural resource management, and competitiveness in order to sustainably and equitably integrate the region’s economy and people into the global economy.

Uganda Forestry Resources and Institutions Centre
UFRIC pursues sustainability of forestry resources in Uganda through systematic data collection and analysis for use in forest policy formulation. It also focuses on the role of indigenous knowledge in environmental conservation.
