The Diversity Ambassadors initiative was founded at the 2009 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. The Ambassadors are a diverse group of graduate students and early-career geographers who volunteer to share their experiences and advice about college life, graduate school, job searches, networking, navigating the Annual Meeting, and more.
Faculty and employers who seek to achieve greater diversity in their programs and workforces are encouraged to talk with the Ambassadors. This informal network seeks to provide an open forum to share recent success stories, engage in conversations regarding recruiting and retention strategies, understanding student and faculty mentoring needs, improving departmental climate, and other insights from the unique perspectives of the ambassadors.
Look out for the Diversity Ambassadors at the next Annual Meeting, especially at the careers and professional development sessions. They can be identified by their green badge ribbons. See the conference program for further details about events and activities involving our Diversity Ambassadors.
Please get in touch if you want to volunteer as a Diversity Ambassador.
