New report explores hiring of 2013 college graduates
June 13, 2013
A recent study by the Society for Human Resource Management explores employers' plans to hire (or not hire) graduates of the Class of 2013. Surveys of HR professionals from nearly 400 organizations identify job categories believed to be difficult to fill with 2013 graduates, skills that new graduates may lack, and potential advantages or disadvantages for new graduates as compared to other job seekers.
Leading barriers to employment for recent graduates include a lack of suitable openings and perceptions that they are underqualified for available positions, particularly in regard to writing and quantitative skills. In better news, more HR professionals are currently hiring as compared to the second quarter of 2012.
