Career Mentors Sought for AAG Annual Meeting
January 23, 2013
The Association of American Geographers (AAG) is sponsoring a special track of sessions and related activities on careers and professional development for geographers at its upcoming Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, to be held April 9-13, 2013.
The Jobs & Careers Center will host a variety of offerings, including a newcomers' orientation, panel sessions, workshops, job postings, information booths, and career mentoring sessions. We seek volunteers representing a range of employment sectors, career stages, academic and professional backgrounds, and personal perspectives to serve as career mentors.
Career mentoring sessions provide an informal and supportive environment for students, job seekers, and professionals considering new opportunities to learn about academic preparation, careers, and professional development. Each session will be staffed by a diverse group of volunteers drawn from the business, government, nonprofit, and academic employment sectors. No special preparation is required; mentors simply agree to be available to answer questions and share information based on their experiences and knowledge. Participation requires a time commitment of as little as one hour, although two-hour shifts are recommended.
If you will be attending the 2013 Annual Meeting and are interested in being a career mentor, please send your name, affiliation, and contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional details and scheduling instructions will be sent to volunteers as the conference dates approach.
