Community members are connected to their environmental resources in ways that bureaucracies are not, and in some theoretical approaches, women are connected to these resources in unique ways. Jennifer Almquist, a student at Oregon State University, conducted extensive interviews, evaluated community activities, and reviewed resource management documents to create a stewardship pilot model for Deadwood, Oregon, that recognizes the role of women in community resource development. She used GIS to map the data collected during her research.
