Combined storm water/wastewater sewage systems are designed to flow directly into streams and rivers once they reach a certain drainage threshold, such as following a heavy rain. Students from Malcilar High School in Bursa, Turkey, examined how one such system affected water quality in a local stream. To reduce water pollution, they recommended protection for riparian zones, better disposal of construction waste, and increased distribution of waste material containers.
