A Study of Traffic Congestion along Old Hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica
Students from Wolmer’s School for Boys
Geographic focus: Jamaica / greater Kingston area
Date completed: 2005
Jamaica’s growing population has put pressure on the country’s transportation system. Students from Wolmer’s School for Boys carried out traffic counts, analyzed maps, and administered questionnaires to determine the major points of origin and destination for commuters using a section of one of Jamaica’s main highways. From their data and analyses, the students made a number of recommendations for reducing traffic in the area of the study, including: increased number of indented bus stops, more traffic grids, and greater presence of traffic police.
