Dams and water pollution threaten Turkey’s wetlands. Ýpek Becan, a high school student from Istanbul, created an inventory of the country’s major lakes and deltas and for each water body, described both why they are important to the people of Turkey and how human activities threaten their future. Recommendations include reducing use of detergents, treatment of wastewater, and re-vegetation of certain areas.
