Poverty is one of the principal causes of environmental degradation.  Saintéus Jean Edner, a student from Port-au-Prince, examined the direct and indirect effects of poverty on Haiti’s natural environment. He recommended public awareness campaigns, reforestation, and initiatives designed to reduce poverty.
