Geographic focus: USA / Little Miami River Basin, Ohio
Date completed: 2005
Understanding of land use/cover and its changes is crucial for projecting future land use patterns and development. Zhongwei Liu, a PhD candidate at the University of Cincinnati, used remote sensing analysis and GIS to quantify current characteristics and the changes of land use/cover, especially along riparian buffer zones, in the Little Miami River Basin, Ohio. The project proves that remote sensing holds potential for inventorying, monitoring, and change detection analysis of environmental and natural resources.
