Geographic focus: Kenya / Lake Naivasha
Date completed: 2002
The ecosystem of Lake Naivasha is under threat due to the rise in human population density and associated effects of intensive irrigation, land subdivision, and intensive use of agro-chemicals and deforestation. Anthony Gathambo, a student at Moi University in Kenya, mapped land use/land cover around the lake to evaluate the effects of human activities on the environment. Proposed actions include terracing hillsides, conservation of vegetation cover, digging dry wells, and better provision of infrastructure.
