Sustainable development is a diverse, multi-faceted plan that forces one to incorporate several different factors into one coherent idea. A team of students at SUNY, Plattsburgh, used GIS to evaluate the relationship between economic development, poverty reduction, groundwater pollution control and regional development. The students concluded that regional development initiatives must consider environmental, social, and economic factors in order to be successful.
