Bull Bay: A Town Ravaged by Nature
Students of Wolmer’s Girls School
Geographic focus: Jamaica / Bull Bay
Date completed: 2005
Each year, flooding in Jamaica destroys crops, damages infrastructure and causes injury and loss of life. Students from the Wolmer’s Girls School created a hazard map based upon a risk analysis of areas prone to severe flooding. They recommended that the government employ hazard risk maps, much like the one they created. They also proposed reforestation of certain hillside areas with steep slopes.
