Arignano Community Project
Students from Antonio Marro School and their teacher Eralda Bertino
Geographic focus: Italy / community of Arignano
Date completed: 2002
How does one create a sustainable community? Students from Antonio Marro School in Arignano, Italy, worked to answer that question using geographic technologies to map land use, tourist sites and natural resources in their community. The mapping process generated many ideas for addressing social and economic challenges through local sustainable development projects, which included filling the ‘Arignano dry lake’ with water to create a recreation area, establishing tourism of agricultural sites, and restoring the King Ottone III Castle (A.D.996) so that it might be used as a venue for exhibitions and performances.
