GCE South Africa TechCamp
Pretoria, South Africa
July 14-23, 2014

US Participants in the South Africa TechCamp began their journey during orientation in Washington, DC from July 11th-12th, then joined South African students in Pretoria on July 13th. Participants spent the first week learning about climate change and how to use geospatial technologies through interactive seminars and group projects. Excursions to Freedom Park, the Sterkfontein Caves, and the Dinokeng Game Reserve gave the participants a first-hand look at the impacts of climate change in South Africa and allowed them to learn more about local cultures while practicing using GPS technology in the field. Our second week in South Africa included the participants working in their groups in preparation for their final TechTorrent presentations. Everyone did a great job!
