The AAG developed a new teaching and learning resource in support of the NRC (2010) report, Understanding the Changing Planet: Strategic Directions for the Geographical Sciences. The Geographic Advantage: An AAG Companion Website for Understanding the Changing Planet offers 11 online geographic investigations to support student understanding of the research questions identified in the report. These online geographic investigations provide student case studies of how geographers might investigate questions based on the four geographic advantages identified by Susan Hanson's work (2004). The 11 modules fall into four themed areas:

  • How to Understand and Respond to Environmental Change
  • How to Promote Sustainability
  • How to Recognize and Cope with Rapid Spatial Reorganization of Economy and Society
  • How to Leverage Technological Change for the Betterment of Society and Environment
