Communicating geography’s value to wider audiences is a long-standing challenge for our field. This webinar brings together three of our discipline’s leader to focus on “why geography matters” and how they have made the case for geography both inside and outside the academy. Such advocacy is essential to building and sustaining strong programs as well as sustaining geography’s important roles to education, science, government, the economy, and society.

Marie Price (George Washington University) is president of American Geographical Society and long-time members of the AAG. David Kaplan (Kent State University) as a past president of the AAG and editor of the Geographical Review. Alexander Murphy (University of Oregon) is also a past president of the AAG and author of Why Geography Matters (2018).
