The AAG's EDGE (Enhancing Departments and Graduate Education) project is sponsoring a panel discussion and a workshop on "Careers in Professional Geography" at the 2012 West Lakes-East Lakes Joint Regional Meeting, to be held Oct. 25-27 at Northern Illinois University.
The panel discussion is scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2:00-3:40 pm. Organizers Ken Foote and Beth Schlemper will guide panelists representing the business, government, and nonprofit sectors in a discussion of how their current work relates to their geography background and training; advice to students interested in pursuing careers like theirs; and other points important to developing successful careers.
The professional career development workshop will be held on Friday, October 26, 4:00-5:40 pm. It will introduce students to career opportunities for professional geographers in the public and private sectors. This highly interactive session will explore the resources developed through the EDGE project and address current students' needs and questions regarding careers in professional geography. Students who would like to attend must enroll no later than Friday October 19th by contacting Dr. Beth Schlemper (MaryBeth.Schlemper@utoledo.edu) as the workshop is limited to a total of 25 student attendees.
