Diversity and Inclusion
The AAG actively engages in outreach and research activities to promote diversity and inclusion within the geography community. We also include data from a variety of sources about our membership and department composition. This section promotes recent and ongoing AAG projects focused on broadening participation in geography.
Disciplinary Demographics - The AAG often receives requests from individuals, geography departments, and university administrators for up-to-date data related to the discipline of geography. On these pages we have gathered data from a variety of sources including our membership database, geography departments, supplemental surveys, and third party surveys and research.
Enhancing Diversity - Enhancing diversity, promoting inclusion, and broadening participation in the discipline of geography are goals that are central to the AAG and its mission. While the AAG develops and fosters many activities that are focused on diversity, these goals are also integrated in ongoing association functions and actions.
Geographies of Broadening Participation - With this research project, the AAG seeks to advance innovative, creative, and ultimately effective understanding about access and success in higher education for broadly defined underrepresented populations, including racial/ethnic minorities, women, persons with disabilities, economically and socially disadvantaged or marginalized persons, and others.
Senior Associates Program - The Senior Associates Program engages retired and senior geographers with various ongoing and special activities of the association.
