2013 Presidential Plenary by Eric Sheppard: Emerging Asias

Remarkable geopolitical and geoeconomic changes are underway for which the land mass called Asia is acting as a strange attractor. The 2013 Presidential Plenary, "Emerging Asias," seeks to draw members' attention to these goings-on and their implications. With the AAG Annual Meeting now the global meeting place for geographers, Los Angeles -- the most Asian metropolis on the Pacific Rim in the United States -- is singularly appropriate for such a discussion. 2013 Past President's Address by Audrey Kobayashi

In her Past President's Address at the 2013 AAG Annual Meeting, Audrey Kobayashi focused on race in the discipline of geography, tracing the concept of race through American geography. She recalled addresses from AAG past presidents Ellsworth Huntington and Harold Rose. "Both reflect currents of thought and controversy that guided the discipline at specific times, and both are part of the larger social and intellectual context," she stated. Watch on YouTube
