
2014 Tampa Awards — April 8-12
Each year, AAG recognizes students, faculty, and professionals for their accomplishments and contributions in conjunction with the annual meeting. We captured the awards presentations in the photos below at special sessions throughout the week at the Convention Center and Marriott Waterside Hotel and during the luncheon held on April 12, 2014, at the Westin Hotel in Tampa.
Alec Murphy received the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Honors.
AAG President Julie Winkler presented Wei Li with the AAG Ronald F. Abler Distinguished Service Honors.
Darrel Hess received the Gilbert Grosvenor Honors for Geographic Education.
Eve Gruntfest was awarded the AAG Gilbert White Public Service Honors.
Warren Washington was awarded AAG's 2014 Honorary Geographer by Lesley-Anne Dupigny-Giroux during a special session on April 9.
AAG 2014 Tampa Annual Meeting; AAG Executive Director Doug Richardson, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Joe Darden and Julian Bond meet for the first time before Bond received the 2014 AAG Atlas Award during his plenary session, "Race Around the World," on April 11.
During the luncheon, Past President Eric Sheppard acknowledged Doreen Massey for the Presidential Achievement Award, which he formally presented to her during his Past President's address on April 10.
Audrey Kobayashi (left) and Joe Darden (right) presented Ruth Wilson Gilmore (center) the AAG Rose Award for Anti-Racism Research and Practice after Darden's "Author Meets Critics: Detroit – Race Riots, Racial Conflicts, and Efforts to Bridge the Racial Divide" session on April 10.
Michael Dear received the AAG Globe Book Award for Why Walls Won't Work: Repairing the US-Mexico Divide.
Martha Bell received the J. Warren Nystrom Dissertation Award for her research titled, Historical Political Ecology of Water: Municipal Water Governance in Colonial Lima, Peru (1578-1700)."
