Geographers are working to solve environmental problems, develop approaches for managing and understanding spatial processes, improve geographic literacy, and make a difference in an increasingly complex and global world.

In tandem with our 2004 Centennial Celebration, the AAG is initiating a major capital campaign entitled Advancing Geography in Partnership with You: The AAG’s Centennial and Beyond to move the organization and geography forward in significant ways. We are seeking to raise $2 million to establish a long-term endowed funding base from which to advance geography broadly in years ahead, and to help meet new challenges and expand opportunities for the discipline.

Through an endowment fund and other capital funds, we are setting our sights to meet these critical challenges and expand opportunites for the discipline.

Thus far, geographers and friends of geography have responded generously to these needs.

By contributing to the Advancing Geography Centennial Fund, you will help the AAG to develop and disseminate new geographic knowledge, strengthen geographic education, build a constituency of geographers in government and business, increase the involvement and raise the visibility of geography in science and policy making settings, and increase the geographic competence of the U.S. population. Your contribution will help strengthen academic geography, enhance diversity in the discipline, and offer leadership training workshops and forums. It will also provide the means for capitalizing on unique opportunities that arise to continue excellent work that is already underway, to venture off in new directions, and to secure our position as a world leader in ideas and their practical applications.
