AAG-Collected Data on Geography Departments

Beginning in fall 2008, the AAG is introducing an online data collection request form for geography departments and programs.  The initial request for this data will accompany solicitations to list in the Association of American Geographers Guide to Geography Programs in the Americas.  Beginning in 2009, tabulated results from this survey can be found on this page.  For 2007, information was extracted from the printed Guide and is available below.

The online form collects departmental data on the type and number of degrees granted, titles of theses and dissertations completed, departmental specialties, faculty salaries, and faculty demographic data, including gender, race, and ethnicity.  As these data are often already collected for other administrative purposes, it is not anticipated that the reporting burden will be excessive.  In no case will individual department data be released; these will be held in the strictest confidence and only summary figures for all responding departments will be presented here.
