National Assessment of Educational Progress, 2001 Geography Report

A new NAEP Geography report released in June, 2002 from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) shows that average 2001 Geography scores of the nation's fourth and eighth-graders are up since 1994, while changes for high school seniors are not statistically significant. Lower performing students at grades four and eight showed an increase in average scale scores, but no overall changes were seen for 12th graders. The Geograpy Assessment presents results for the nation; please note that there are no state-by-state results.
