Supporting Materials

The materials in this section support the background information and the student activities.  Each Supporting Material is numbered according to the section or activity in which it may be used.  For example, Supporting Material 1.1 accompanies Activity 1.1.  Materials that are intended to support the Background Information in the module, such as overhead originals or other documents, are numbered according to the Unit.  For example, Supporting Material 3 accompanies the Background Information for Unit 3.

There are three options for downloading the Supporting Materials for this module; they are provided to allow you the greatest flexibility in using this module in your classroom.

Adobe Acrobat 3.0

All of the Supporting Materials are provided as Adobe Acrobat documents.  Adobe allows you to download and print "ready-to-use" materials without formatting variations that can result from the use of different computers, Internet browsers, or printers. To view and/or print these materials, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. This is a free program and can be downloaded by clicking on the "Get Acrobat Reader" icon at the left and following the instructions. Many Internet browsers (e.g., Netscape 3.0 and higher, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher) work with Acrobat Reader so that you can view and print the Acrobat files while using your browser.  Once you've installed Acrobat Reader on your computer, return to this page and click on the appropriate Supporting Material(s) below to view and/or print them for use in your classroom.
MS-Word 7.0

Some of the Supporting Materials are also provided as MS-Word 7.0 documents (*.doc).  Download this version of the materials if you would like to modify a particular document to suit your particular needs or classroom setting. You should be able to open the document in your own software and make the necessary changes.  Note that formatting, spacing, and/or image quality may be affected.
Graphics
Files
Supporting Materials that are graphics or maps are also provided as image files (i.e., GIF, JPEG, or BMP).  Download this version if you want to use an image to create your own supporting materials.  To download the image files 1) follow the link,  2) right click your mouse on the map or image you want to download; 3) select the "save image as" option and choose a disk drive on your computer to save it to.
