Lesson 3 - Collaborative Learning Activity 3.1 - How does the education of women affect population growth in India?

Procedures for Completing the Activity. You can complete this activity using the following steps. It is recommended that you meet with the members of your local group so you can all work on the activity at the same time.

Step 1 - Local groups should download the Excel spreadsheet "Population in India and Kerala".

Step 2 - Using the data in Table 1, local groups should complete the spreadsheet by entering the population density, growth rates, and literacy rates under the respective columns. As your group enters data, a graph will be generated that illustrates trends in both India and the Indian state of Kerala over a one hundred year period.

Step 3 - When the spreadsheet is completed, go to the Group Discussion Board and find the new forum with the title "Kerala". Your team should use this forum to discuss the following question about the spreadsheet. Try to discuss the question long enough so that each member has a chance to share a view and respond to at least one other member of the team.

Compare the spreadsheet data for India and Kerala. How are trends in literacy related to population change and density in Kerala? In India? Attach your spreadsheet to your answer.
