Lesson 1 - Collaborative Learning Activity 1.2 - Is the world producing enough food?

Procedures for Completing Activity. You can complete this activity using the following steps. It is recommended that you meet with the members of your local group so you can all work on the activity at the same time.

Step 1 - Click here Flash file to view an interactive presentation that compares international patterns of food production.

Step 2 - After viewing the presentation, go to the Group Discussion Board and find the forum with the title "Lesson 1 - Carrying Capacity". The full team should use this forum to discuss the following questions. Try to discuss the questions long enough so that each member has a chance to share a view and respond to at least one other member of the team.

  1. Take a moment to reflect on the "Trends in Food Production" presentation. What evidence can you give to support the view that the Earth's carrying capacity has been exceeded in some parts of the world? How conclusive is this evidence?

  2. Suppose you were the leader of a country where food production has not kept pace with population growth. What would you do about this situation?
