  Enhancing Departments and Graduate Education in Geography (EDGE) is a research and action project led by the Association of American Geographers (AAG) to enhance the preparation of professional geographers for careers in higher education, government, business, and non-profit organizations.   Sponsored by the National Science Foundation’s Research on Learning and Evaluation (ROLE)a and Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and Engineering (REESE)b programs, EDGE is:
  • researching issues affecting the quality of graduate education, professional development, and academic climate in geography and related disciplines;
  • publishing print and web materials for graduate curricula, departmental leadership, and career advising;
  • engaging students, professionals, and academic departments through workshops, conference presentations, and campus visits;
  • collaborating with external organizations and researchers on efforts to study, support, and enhance graduate education in social and environmental sciences.

All of these activities are pursued in cooperation with geography graduate students, faculty, graduate program advisors and directors, and department chairs, as well as with the AAG membership and staff.
