Western University. Dr. Rachelle Brooks of Northwestern University
has developed an evaluation plan for the EDGE project.. The mixed-method,
longitudinal evaluation is designed to assess the impact of the
project in three areas: (1) to develop a diverse, internationally
competitive and globally engaged workforce of geographers, (2)
to enable discoveries in geography and beyond related to learning
at the graduate level, and (3) to produce state-of-the-art information
base/research/education materials for geography departments as
well as materials of value to other disciplines.

Center
for Innovation and Research in Graduate Education (CIRGE).
CIRGE is conducting a survey of social science PhDs who earned
their degrees between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1999. The survey
focuses on job search, work/life choices and dilemmas, and doctoral
program evaluation. Information from the survey will complement
EDGE research on career development and program climate. |
Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL). Under the CASTL Leadership program, the AAG will collaborate with Carnegie and several institutions on efforts to develop and disseminate resources for improving the pedagogical knowledge and training of graduate students. The AAG, through the EDGE project, is also establishing connections and working relationships with international organizations dedicated to the improvement of graduate education, faculty development, and the teaching and learning of geography in higher education. Examples include:

the AAG will constructively engage other professional and scholarly
organizations in the work of EDGE.
