AFRICAN REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY ORGANIZATIONS
African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE)
This professional association encourages the development and practice of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) as well as products of these geo-information technologies in their respective areas of operation.
African Development Information Services (AfDevInfo)
AfDevInfo tracks the mechanics of political and economic development across Sub Saharan Africa. This commercial, not-for-profit enterprise draws together a diverse range of publicly available data and presents it as an accessible and ever expanding online database.
African Geo Information Research Network (AGIRN)
AGIRN provides the African geo-information research community the means to publish and access high quality work, share in geo-information knowledge and engage in discussion through a widely accessible web based medium.
African Reference Frame (AFREF)
AFREF works to create a fundamental basis for national and regional three-dimensional reference networks. When fully implemented, it will consist of a network of continuous permanent GPS stations such that a user anywhere in Africa would have free access to GPS data and products and would be at most 1000 km from such stations.
EIS Africa
This network of professionals and organizations collaborates to generate, manage, disseminate and use geo-spatial and environmental information to enrich policy debate and support decision-making for the well-being of African people.
Jane Goodall Institute
The Jane Goodall Institute works to increase primate habitat conservation; expand non-invasive research programs on chimpanzees and other primates; and promote activities that ensure the well-being of chimpanzees, other primates and animal welfare activities in general.
Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD)
RCMRD provides technical services, advisory services and training in numerous fields of surveying and mapping. The organization specializes in photogrammetry, photo-interpretation, first order geodesy, remote sensing, and calibration and maintenance of surveying and mapping equipment.
Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS)
RECTAS works with regional governments and mapping organizations to disseminate information in the field of geo-informatics through seminars, workshops, courses. RECTAS also provides advisory services to these organizations.
University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa (UNEDRA)
UNEDRA's main aim is to forge interaction amongst universities in Africa with interest in teaching on disaster risk reduction, through information sharing, capacity building and collaborative research.
